  • Thoughts to No One in Particular

I think it's fascinating that by writing down one's thoughts, the thoughts suddenly turn into something comprehendable.
Life has thrown some pretty large swings in my direction lately. I'm either thrilled about the prospect of getting married, stressed with how many stupid little details it takes to plan a wedding, or I'm frustrated with work and people who I just don't understand. Everything is so clear in my head, now why doesn't everyone else just think the same way as me. haha... that is a scary thought.

So as I take this giant leap from single-hood to married-life, does anyone have good advice for me? ("good" of coursed being interpreted by the person writing it; which makes me a little nervous..." ;)

  • I hate politics

Yes, I'm still alive for those of you who might actually still check my xanga. ;) Life's been busy, but something finally annoyed me enough to want to write again.

I figure what I have to say might disturb some people, but if I can't vent here, I can't vent anywhere.

The DNC is in Denver this week, and suddenly everyone I know seems to be an "expert" on politics and the way this country should be run. They're great at bashing the efforts of those who had the balls to actually do something for this country, but besides droning on about what should be, little action is actually taking place.

Most of the time I can ignore the long winded speeches of ignorant people, but a comment last night finally struck a cord of injustice. To me, how self-centered to do you have to be to defend the rights of those making fools of themselves downtown, beating people over the head with signs that say "Stop the War in Iraq." Whether I agree with the reasons our soldiers are in Iraq or not is irrelevant. What angers me is that instead of supporting the troops that have given up so much to cover our butts and protect our freedoms, we have the audacity to use that freedom to whine about how the war is making our country look bad and that must be why we have high gas prices.

There will always be a war somewhere to fight. Welcome to the real world. Whether we should be in Iraq or not, at this point in the discussion, is not important since the fact remains that we ARE in Iraq. How about we start looking out for the families of the soldiers who are looking out for us?

Why is it that people bitch about not having enough candidates who are pro-life instead of volunteering at a pregnancy center if they're really that passionate about it. You can go off all you like about the record number of homeless people in our city, but unless you're willing to get your hands dirty and actually help them out, I don't want to hear it.

I'm so sick of "politics." It has now become a term for idealists who sit on their asses all day whining about the way the world is instead of actually doing something to change it.

  • Tulsa!

Why is it that I only write when I'm on vacation?

I'm in Tulsa for a week to hang out with some college friends. After a crazy year of transitions at work, the church I design for closed for a week to give its employees a much-needed break.

What is it that makes men and women so different from one another? As the in-between friend for several misunderstandings, as well as finding myself in several miscommunication, I've come to the conclusion that it is a miracle that any male and female can understand one another.

Although both sexes can be involved in the same situation, the man may be thinking caution and a bit of interest, while the woman has convinced herself that he is the One. Not saying that either party is at fault of the difference, rather it is how their thoughts are communicated that is key. It is also vital to understanding the difference and have a general understand of the difference between male and female reasoning.

If you have some free time, I would recommend checking out "For Men Only" and "For Women Only." The books are based on national surveys on how men and women operate differently. I found them fascinating.

If you have read those, or other resources on this topic, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  • Chicago!

Okay, so now I'm in Chicago. I'm beginning to see a trend here...

Tomorrow my siblings and I drive to Gull Lake, Michigan to spend a week camping as a family. (camping my style- with cabins and showers!)

It was fun running around downtown Chicago today in the pouring rain. The city is so alive and is in constant motion. It reminded me a bit of what it was like to live in Singapore- jumping on trains, squishing between people on sidewalks, and listening to musicians on street corners.

After five miles of wandering around, looking for a famous pizza place, we discovered that it was closed for renovations. So we jumped over a few more puddles, and sloshed our way to the Navy Pier where of all the places to eat, I got my usual McDonalds. (nothing like flying all the way to another city, just to enjoy a nice fast food restaurant ;)

Here's hoping for a fun family vacation! Hopefully, as the last brave, remaining single Rittenhouse, I am determined to have fun with the fam and couples. ;)

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

  • Maine!

I'm in Maine! After a few stressful months at work, I decided to fulfill my New Year's Resolution- to go some where I've never been quite unexpectedly. So I bought a ticket to Maine a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm here with my good friends, Josh, Becky, and Josiah. Besides a sunburn, it has been nothing but awesome.

One of the most unexpected parts of Maine has been the shimmer of Mica in the soil. While at a wildlife preserve today, I watched the animals play in a cloud of glittering dust. Maine apparently has a high Mica content naturally in the soil. And there is your random trivia for the day.

I do realize my ability to post frequently has been hampered by my work-a-holic nature that keeps me glued to my office chair when I much rather be gallivanting through the fields of the Rockies. Ah well, someday I will realize the priorities of life.

The scariest part of my life recently has been discovering that my wrist popping, which developed with frequent computer use in high school and college, has worsened with designing 10-11 hours a day. I had never really thought that someone in their early 20s could be faced with arthritis, but it does look like my hands are headed in that direction. If any one has any suggestion, please let me know. But besides investing in a $400 Wacom pen, I'm guessing I'll have to deal with it until I can't any more.

In brighter news, my brother is now officially engaged and I will have a new sister on September 8th. Best of luck to you, Nate.
